LRPS
This was the beginning of my photographic journey. How naive I was to imagine that with no club experience, no exhibition submissions and no input from other photographers I could reach the standard required for an 'L'. However as I didn't know what I was letting myself in for I threw myself into the process with gusto, sometimes ignorance can be bliss!!
In October 2006 I purchased a bridge camera and very quickly my latent interest in photography was reawakened, soon I was looking for a way to learn more. Following an internet search for photography courses in UK I came across a link to the Royal Photographic Society (RPS). I realised that a course would not be appropriate for me, due to work and other committements and consequently I decided to look into the possibility of pursuing a distinction, giving me the option to work in my own time and at my own pace.
Previous to my search I had no idea that the RPS existed, that there were photography clubs all over the country and that it was possible to enter exhibitions and competitions.
During August 2007 I put some pictures onto the RPS forum for critique. To my amazement and delight I received a reply from Richard Walton, a Fellow of the RPS, asking if I would like him to advise me as I worked towards my 'L'. Of course I said "yes" and so began a friendship which has continued to this day and which has been instrumental in guiding and encouraging me to move forward in my photography.
After nine months of hard work.....very hard work.... I finally submitted my panel on May 28th 2008 and the rest, as they say, is history.
